Karena terhubung dengan internet maka memungkinkan untuk diakses dimanapun dan kapanpun. Munculnya IoT ini dipicu dengan kebutuhan manusia dan berkembangnya teknologi elektronika dan teknologi informasi serta telekomunikasi. Data bisa berupa koordinat lokasi, data pengukuran sensor, citra maupun video. Jenis data tergantung jenis dan tujuan IoT itu di bangun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hierarki selanjutnya adalah <em>connectivity<\/em>. Fungsi <em>connectivity<\/em> adalah menghubungkan antara data from thing ke jaringan internet. Ada banyak pilihan teknologi dalam hierarki ini. Di antaranya adalah Wifi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, LoRa, Sigfox, NB-IoT dan lain-lain. Masing-masing mempunyai kapabilitas yang berbeda terkait data rate dan konsumsi daya serta jarak transmisi. Kita juga bisa membangun server sendiri untuk menyimpan data ini. Apps bisa berupa aplikasi web maupun aplikasi mobile. Dalam Bidang lingkungan, IoT diterapkan untuk monitoring cuaca, kualitas udara, kualitas air. Dalam bidang kesehatan IoT membantu untuk memantau perkembangan pasien jarak jauh. Dalam bidang transportasi, IoT diaplikasikan untuk mengetahui jadwal pemberangkatan transportasi umum, pemesanan tiket, posisi armada. Sehingga sangat memudahkan masyarakat untuk menikmati transportasi umum. Selain transportasi umum IoT juga diterapkan di system perusahaan layanan transportasi. Sehingga kita dapat memesan taksi dari mana saja, dan mengetahui update lokasi armada yang akan melayani kita. Informasi driver, no kendaraan juga dapat diketahui. Hal ini akan membuat pengguna layanan merasa aman dan nyaman. Pada aplikasi IoT untuk mitigasi bencana, IoT diaplikasikan baik pra bencana seperti sosialisasi status bencana, pada masa bencana seperti sistem informasi untuk penyelamatan maupun pengungsian serta pasca bencana seperti sistem informasi bantuan kepada korban bencana, distribusi relawan, recovery dan lain sebagainya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aplikasi IoT dalam bidang kesehatan contohnya adalah system telemedicine, pengukuran <em>Heart Rate<\/em>, sistem informasi diet dan sebagainya. Gambar 4 menunjukkan aplikasi IoT untuk pengukuran heart secara instan, sebagai sensor adalah kamera dari perangkat mobile. Kemudian hasilnya bisa disimpan di pangkalan data dengan periode mingguan, bulanan, atau tahunan untuk evaluasi perkembangan kesehatan.
